How to be Websmart

Durable is an 2006 award winning Wordpress theme created by Andy Peatling of Blaze New Media. I recently discovered the theme, and really liked it. The theme is known for its efficient allocation of space, its integration of Ajax, and its unique ability to allow users to change just about every color on the site to their liking (to see what I mean, play around with the options feature above.)

Unfortunately, the theme did not support widgets. I’m a huge fan of widgets, and heavily rely upon them for everything from my subpage menu to ads.

So I hopped onto RentaCoder, and hired a programmer to fix the theme for me. The programmer I ended up choosing was Getonthenet. He did a great job, and modified the theme in the following ways:

1. He made it widget compatible.
2. He added the ability to hide the Archives menu (which is fantastic btw, but I don’t use it - so I’ve hidden it here)
3. He fixed a couple of the menu bugs.

I immediately switched my Wordpress theme. If you want to demo the DurableWR Wordpress theme, feel free to play around this site.

I contacted Andy, and got his permission to release the DurableWR to the world :-P. Feel free to download it below.

I know that many users have been waiting for a Widget ready version of Durable, and I am happy to report that it works great (for me anyway).

A couple things to note:

I am not a programmer

Sadly, my programming skills are not very good (in fact, they are close to terrible). If ideas + manufacturing = product, I am much better at generating ideas. For example, at our site, we write articles teaching people free ways to save money online.

Recently, I hired some programmers on RentaCoder to make what I think is the most efficient free shopping tool for Firefox called the Ultimate Pricechecker.

What I mean to write is…if you have problems with installing and using the DurableWR theme, please do not contact me. I wouldn’t be very useful to you :-(.

If you have problems/questions/comments, you have a couple avenues:

1. Contact the original designer, Andy Peatling of Blaze Media
2. Ask other Wordpress users in the Wordpress forums.
3. Contact Getonthenet. Note: I hired Getonthenet via Rentacoder to widgetize the Durable theme for me. He was very responsive, reliable, and reasonable.
4. Get on RentaCoder and ask another programmer to fix it for you.

To Install DurableWR

1. Download “Durable(widgetready).zip” from the Box.net box below. If you can’t see the box, you may have a flashblocker on.
2. Unzip the file.
3. Upload the “Durable” folder to your Wordpress themes folder.
4. Activate the Durable theme from your Admin menu, and enjoy one of the best Wordpress themes on the web!
