Free Software

Welcome to the Free Software section of How to be Websmart.

The purpose of this section is simple: to point you towards great free software - software which can enhance the way you interact with your data, your computer, and the Internet.

There is a lot of great free software online. Everything from a browser that helps you surf the Web more safely surf and gets rid of web annoyances to a program that helps you manage digital pictures. There is also lots of free software to protect your computer - like free anti-virus software, free personal firewall software, free anti-spyware software, and so forth.

There are two considerations for all software in this section:

  1. All of it must be downloaded and installed on your computer to work.
  2. All of it is free. By ‘free’ we either mean the software is freely provided to everyone by a company; is open-source software; or is a free or trial version of paid software. In this latter case, the free version of the software has fewer features than the paid version.
