How to Send Free Text Messages From Your Browser
What to do
(Text messages to US phones only). You need the Firefox browser to use Google’s free Send to Phone Service. We recommend you download Firefox with the Google Toolbar (to learn more about Firefox, you can read our Firefox Explained article.)
Open Firefox and then browse to this page. Download the Google Send to Phone extension here. Once you have downloaded the extension, restart Firefox.
From now on, you should see a phone icon in the upper right hand corner. Click on the icon - a small window should pop up. Enter the phone number you are texting. Then select the carrier of the number you are contacting. You can add a subject if you want. Finally, input the text you want to send - don’t worry if the message is long, as Google Send to Phone will automatically split lots of words into two or more messages. When you are done, click the send button. That’s it!
Before you read the service, you may want to read the Send to Phone FAQ.
