Amazon.com is a popular place to shop online. Bookmark this page and visit it each time you shop there - we’ve put together the best strategy we could find.
Coupon codes
Amazon releases coupon codes, but they tend to be product specific (like ‘$25 off [name brand] watches) and not general order coupons (like ‘10% off your order’). We’ve included three great sites that track Amazon coupon codes. We recommend shopping first, and then clicking on the links to quickly scan for any coupon codes that are relevant to your purchase, and enter them according to the instructions above.
PriceProtectr.com
It is not common knowledge, but Amazon has a price drop policy. It works like this: if the price of an item you bought at Amazon drops within 30 days of purchase, Amazon will credit you the difference. But there are two catches:
- You have to monitor the price to find out when the drop happens.
- You have to ask Amazon for the price refund.
PriceProtectr.com makes these two steps easy for you. For each item you purchase at Amazon, submit the product’s url to PriceProtectr.com right after you purchase the item. We suggest using your personal email address at PriceProtectr.com, only because you’ll learn of price drops right away. If you check your registration email everyday too, then use that one.
If the price drops at Amazon.com on any of the items you’ve recorded, PriceProtectr.com will send you a link to Amazon’s contact page, where you can ask for a refund of the price difference. Think of using PriceProtectr.com as an easy way to hedge your bets against price drops at Amazon. In other words, using our strategy could get you savings before and after you make your purchase.
Amazon Prime
(US Residents only) If you shop a lot at Amazon, consider purchasing Amazon Prime. Amazon Prime gives you and your family free two-day shipping on all your purchases at Amazon. But it costs $79 dollars a year.
Is Amazon Prime worth purchasing? It depends on how much you shop at Amazon. Amazon normally offers ‘Free Super-Saving shipping’ for purchases over $25 for people living in the continental US. So Amazon Prime is probably most useful for families who:
- Want their products really fast.
- Make lots of individual little purchases at Amazon.com throughout the year.
If you don’t shop at Amazon.com that often, then joining Amazon Prime is probably not for you.

Full Disclosure: The only referral links in this article are for Amazon.com. You should know that we receive a referral commission of 4-8.5% for ever referral sale we provide to Amazon.com - the percentage is determined by the type of product you buy, and how much volume we provide for Amazon.com. A ’sale’ occurs when you click through on one of the links above, and make a purchase in the same session at Amazon.com. In other words, if you visit Amazon.com without clicking through any Amazon.com links on Howtobewebsmart.com, we do not make any money. We provide these links in association with Amazon.
Also, we make our commission on the sale price after any coupon codes are applied (or on the final purchase price).
